China being the first, it is no surprise that India is second in the world for producing tea. Two varietals come out of this country, they include the tea most commonly known as Darjeeling which comes from Camellia sinensis var. sinensis, and the Assam which is region that grows tea from the Camellia sinensis var. assamica bush.
Darjeelings are grown in the highlands of West Bengal and considered the Champagne of tea. With a musky spice notes similar to muscatel.
Assam bush grows in the lowlands of the Brahmaputra River. Produces 2 harvests a year and approximately 680,400 kg of tea a year.
